I have always been fascinated by our bodies and how they work-they are amazing!
Since 2010 I have been a child life specialist-supporting children and their families in coping with the stress of being in the hospital. I've worked in several hospitals in Minnesota, and seen amazing, life-saving stories. And yet there always seemed to be something missing. Layers that weren't being addressed.
So I started to dig. I took every training and certification I could get my hands on (and justify taking as a child life specialist at the time).
I completed a variety of trainings and certifications from M-Technique, Yoga Calm, MindBody Solutions, and an Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy Certificate.
With ten years of working in Level I Trauma Centers, Trauma also fascinated me. I briefly started to design my own masters degree focusing on the neurobiology of stress in our bodies. SO COOL! But, as I started that degree, just like several other times in my healthcare career, my own health took my plans to a halting stop.
My own search for healing and wellness lead me down many paths: whole food nutrition, chiropractic, acupuncture, low-tox living, working with a naturopathic doctor, working with a pelvic floor physical therapist, and so much more!
I stumbled upon bodywork while pregnant with my son. My incredible midwife does this work. It helped relieve discomfort during my pregnancy, and was a game changer for my postpartum experience! My son was born with a lip and tongue tie, and this is where the magic really happened. We pursued a wide variety of therapies to help him latch better and be more comfortable in his body (he was so tight!) and this is the work that had the most lasting success. Each visit I would ask, "What can I be doing at home?" "What else can I be doing?" and finally, "How can I learn how to do this?"
At first I wanted to learn this work so I could help my family. Then I realized that this was one of the missing pieces I was searching for all along!
It is a joy and honor to do this work every week, helping people to become more in-tune with their bodies, find more balance, and move past plateaus in their healing journeys. We were designed to heal-our bodies are so amazing!
When I'm not doing bodywork, I'm spending time with my husband and our two children, reading, pretending to garden (honestly, I'll succeed at it one day!) dancing around the house, amateur kayaking, dreaming in our backyard, cooking and baking, learning everything, playing and going on adventures.
My office is located conveniently in the southwest corner of 35W and 494, in the short building of the Southtown Office Park (8100 Penn Ave S), and nestled inside Opulent Natural Health (Suite 155)
